As private investigators we look for and find people. We had a recent case that required the finding of an address. All we had to go on was a username from a dating website. We reviewed the dating site, plugged the username into a search and bam, all the info right in front of us. Well, almost. It took a few clicks but we can up with an address, cell phone, matching photos and even pics of the subjects dog and house along with a history of the subjects fun runs and bicycle fun rides. 10 minutes and no cost. Too easy.
This post is not about how easy it is to find a subject of interest. It is about the use of usernames.
Here is the advise: DON’T USE THE SAME USERNAME ACROSS ALL OF YOUR SOCIAL AND DATING WEBSITES.
When creating a dating profile, create a username completely different for each dating site you are on. Keep them different from the usernames of your other social sites. As private investigators, we’ll still find you. But you don’t want to be easily found by dating site stalkers.
That’s it. Carry on.
